WHO ARE WE?
HEALTHJNK is a collaboration between Eutectic - a circular food platform based at The Plant in Chicago, Pemba Blue - a Zanzibar social impact seaweed ingredients company and Ecoaccess - a Malaysia upcycled palm by-product ingredient producer.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
About 70% of the calories consumed today come from ultra-processed food. These foods are engineered for taste and shelf life, but in the process they're stripped of the micronutrients, polyphenols, and beneficial compounds your body needs. The result is an epidemic of "malnutrition" across the lifespan - stunting children's cognitive future, behavioral issues, obesity, heart and other cardiovascular diseases, and shortened life expectancy.
WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY?
We take safe, food-grade waste streams (from industrial food and beverage producers, breweries and food distribution) and convert them into bioactive ingredients that can be added back into everyday foods, improving their nutritional value without changing how people eat. Nothing is wasted. What remains after extraction is turned into biostimulants that support urban farming and help grow better, more resilient crops—right here in the city. The result is a closed-loop system: waste becomes nutrition, and cities become part of their own food solution.

By upgrading everyday foods with essential nutrients, we improve diet quality without requiring consumers to change behavior or pay more, helping address the hidden burden of malnutrition across all communities. At the same time, our circular process reduces food system waste and converts it into inputs for urban farming, supporting more resilient, local food production. The result is a closed-loop model that improves public health, strengthens city-level food systems, and turns waste into a valuable resource for both people and the planet
